Family Discoveries

I have been working really hard lately on researching my family tree & have been lucky enough to find someone to collaborate with. While doing research I discovered a very nice woman & it turns out that her husband is a relative of mine from my father's side of the family. We've been helping each other uncover the complicated history of the Wilders. I feel very lucky to have found her because it's always helpful to have someone that understands what I'm going through in the journey. It has motivated me & I'm hopeful that I'll find other long lost relatives that I can get to know.

My Grandmother

I've received some bad news today. My grandmother Wilma Mann is in her final stages of life & will be gone any day now. It's been a long time since I've seen her but I still love her very much & always will. Soon she'll be joining my grandfather & my mom in Heaven so she won't have to suffer much longer. She has lived a long life & many people love her so she'll never be forgotten.

Discovering Where You Came From

Genealogy helps us discover where we originated from. For example, so far I've discovered that I have had ancestors that were born in Germany & England. I was told by my mother that we also originated from Ireland but I haven't discovered that in my research yet. It certainly explains why I've always had a keen interest in Ireland though. My husband & I went to Dublin for our honeymoon so in a way I was in the land of my ancestors at that time. I also live in England so it seems like maybe I'm destined to be close to where my ancestors once lived. It might sound silly but it feels like fate has brought me here & I'm determined to discover more about where I originated from. I feel like there's so much more for me to discover & I'm eager to continue on my ancestry journey.

Families During the Holidays

With Easter approaching I'd like to take some time to reflect on families & how important it is to spend time with the ones you love. Although, it is important to make time for your family anytime not just during the holidays. Families come in all shapes & sizes. I'm a stepmother but I love my stepsons as if they were my own. I have many Easter memories from when I was a child. For most of those memories it was just my mom & I but she always made Easter special. She always made sure I had plenty of treats in my Easter basket but most of all it was the time we spent together that mattered the most. So this Easter make sure you treasure every moment with your families because memories last forever.

In Loving Memory of My Parents

Today I would like to take a moment to reflect on my parents who have both passed away. My father passed away when I was very young. He was a hardworking man & I loved him very much. After he died my mother raised me on her own. I'm sure being a single mother was very difficult for her but she carried on because she had me to think about. She passed away in 2011 at the age of 59. I got married in 2012 & it was sad that she never got the chance to see me walk down that aisle. Hopefully, she'd be proud of the woman I turned out to be. She made me who I am because she was such a big influence in my life. I love & miss both of

my parents. Rest in peace mom & dad.

Useful Resource For Building Your Family Tree

I have been using Family Search to help build my family tree. It's completely free & not very many research sites are. Most sites will give you a free trial but then they expect you to pay for a subscription. Why pay when you can find everything you need for free. Family Search will even help you if you start having difficulties & believe me difficulties happen often when you start digging into the past. I've certainly had my fair share of problems so far but I'm glad I discovered Family Search. The site has been a big help to me & I would recommend it to anyone.

Joke of the day

Do you know why genealogists die with a smile on their face? Because they know this will be another date for their pedigree chart!

Back to square one

Well, my dad's cousin was able to enlighten me about a lot of what I needed help with. Apparently, I had been researching the wrong person all this time. It may sound silly but it can happen often when certain names are common. It seems I'm on the right track now at least. Sadly, it appears that my Great Great grandfather did abandon his family. Nobody knows what happened to him. It may be sad but at least I finally know the truth. Who knows what I'll discover next. Eager to see what other mysteries I'll discover on this journey.

My Great Great grandfather

Lately, I've been discovering just how difficult genealogy research can be. I have to admit that sometimes the whole thing gives me a headache. At the moment, my dad's side of the family seems to be giving me the most trouble. I'm discovering that my great great grandfather was a complicated man & I'm having trouble sorting it all out. I've been told by a couple of sources that he just disappeared & left his family. I suppose I don't want to believe that one of my ancestors could do that to his own family but anything is possible. It just proves my point that sometimes you discover things that you don't always like. So far I haven't found any proof that he disappeared so I'm going to keep hoping that it isn't true. For now I want to remain optimistic about who my great great grandfather really was.

Traveling back in time

Ancestry research is like traveling back in time. To a time when life was very different than it is now. However, it can also be a sad experience because the deeper you delve into your ancestors lives the more you wish that you had known them. Sadly, you don't always like what you discover. For example, I discovered that my great great grandmother committed suicide & it really hurt me even though I never knew her. I read her obituary & it made me cry. I can imagine how silly that sounds but it's true. It just goes to show that you never know what you'll discover but the discoveries are worth it in the end.

Introduction

For many years I considered researching my family tree but never did it until now. You don't realize how difficult it will be until you actually start doing it. It may be difficult but it's a very rewarding experience because you are discovering about your ancestors past & where it all began. I highly recommend that people give it a try. You never know what you might discover about yourself as well as your ancestors.
